Celebrating National Hot Dog Day, The Gluten-Free, Healthy, Organic Way!
Summertime is synonymous with sunshine, backyards, beaches, and BBQ. Due to the fact that I find most gluten-free buns tasteless and unappealing, I usually eat my grilled veggie dogs sans bun. While it still tastes delicious, I always feel like I’m missing out on the whole dog + bun + toppings experience. As summer grilling is in full swing and BBQ has become a regular meal I was super excited to see that Canyon Gluten-Free Bakehouse who I’ve written about before just re-released their hot dog buns, which are not only gluten-free, but ALSO nut-free!
Given that National Hot Dog Day happens this month I felt inspired to create my own Allergy Free Wife spin on the typical hot dog meal, replacing the hot dog with a fire-roasted fuji apple chicken sausage, trading in a traditional wheat bun for a gluten-free variety made with whole grains, and swapping out fries for baked lentil chips. A healthier, gluten-free version of the summertime favorite if you will!
Lunch is served! I’m loving this Chicken Fire Roasted Fuji Apple Chicken Sausage from Fork in the Road Foods, which is also 100% organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and wheat-free. I’m already dreaming of trying their other flavors (Vermont maple syrup breakfast sausage, anyone?) The chicken sausage served on a warmed Canyon Bakehouse hot dog bun topped with ketchup and relish makes for the perfect allergy-free summer meal.
As a treat for my readers, I’m giving away a variety of Canyon Bakehouse products, including their new Everything Bagels (now sesame free!), Hotdog Buns, and Hamburger Buns. Enter below!
